Day 73 - Ollyantaytambo to Abancay

Today was a short ride of 198 km to a town that Compass Expeditions had never stayed in before, called Abancay. We are heading south a little and west eventually to end up a the coast then to Ecuador and Columbia.

It is decidely not a tourist town as there is no Cambio to change money and restaurants are all local, which is fine. Our hotel is "Quaint" but satisfactory, as we have a couple of long days coming up. Many hotels in South America were built about thirty years ago, but since then, Peru has been through a short three month civil war and the covid pandemic, so no new hotels are being built unless they are in very touristy areas.

The road here was very windy which is normally fun to ride, but we had to take great care with the busess and trucks coming the other way and using both the lanes of the road!
