We have finally completed a 16 day loop, anti-clockwise in Brazil to return to Foz do Iguacu where the magnificent falls are to be seen.
The ride in was cool to start, unlike the previous day (6 April) but as we progressed over just 347 km, a relatively short day for riding for us, the skys darkened and it looked like rain. Well in the end, it absolutely poured down as we rode the last 80 km into Foz. Along with the rain came lightning and thunder and visibility was brought down to about 50m.
We slowed down, and my fancy KLIM riding suit managed to keep out the worst of it, so I had dry feet and chest and crutch, but others were soaked through. We were glad to get to the hotel that we had stayed in before, the Hotel Taroba, and to get dry clothes on. As said before, this is not my favourite hotel, despite a good location and a fantastic "meals" restaurant next door. We took advantage of the fixed price lunch and the buffet where the choice was huge with many different salads and types of meat.
Afterwards, Sheryle was keen to go to Paraguay, just to say "I've been" and not to do some shopping, so we commandeered a local taxi who literally drove us across the "open" border and back! So we have both been to Paraguay! Shopping in the pouring rain would have been none to exciting I have to say, despite the fact that it was less than 4 km from our hotel.
We had discussed the raised plateau of El Chaco that covers central South America and the road-crossing through Paraguay, which is certainly the most direct route. However, 700km of gravel and deep mud was no longer attractive!
Tomorrow we cross over into Argentina again.
